Course overview

The MSc Engineering Business Management combines engineering, business and management. Exeter describes the programme as particularly applicable to careers where technical engineering knowledge needs to be combined with management and commercial skills. The course focuses strongly on the application of Industry 4.0 digital technologies to industrial and supply-chain processes. Students develop knowledge of management specifically adapted to engineering environments, while also studying areas such as smart production, sustainable manufacturing, operations management, supply chains, machine learning and innovation. The programme is delivered through a mixture of lectures, seminars, tutorials, industrial presentations, case studies, industry visits, computer simulations, project work and a dissertation. Exeter states that students develop transferable skills including management and communication, computational techniques, data handling and analysis, problem solving, decision-making and research methodology. The programme is also accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for meeting Further Learning requirements toward Chartered Engineer registration, subject to the stated undergraduate-degree requirements. Exeter's Engineering Department also has Chartered Management Institute (CMI) accreditation, giving students the opportunity to gain a professional management qualification alongside their engineering studies.
