Course overview

Bioinformatics combines biology + computing + data analysis. You will learn to: • Analyse biological and genomic data • Use bioinformatics databases and tools • Work with programming and scripting • Analyse large biological datasets • Study genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics and metagenomics • Apply bioinformatics to healthcare, biomedical research and biotechnology The course also includes practical laboratory training, not just computer-based bioinformatics.

General entry requirements

• 2:2 Honours degree or equivalent • Degree in Biological Sciences, Biosciences or a related Life Sciences subject • Medical degree may also be accepted. • Relevant non-standard qualifications/experience may be considered. • English: IELTS 6.0 overall, minimum 5.5 in each component. ⚠️ For your BSc Computer Science: this course specifically asks for a Biological/Life Sciences background, so a general Computer Science degree would not normally meet the stated academic requirement.
